The “all on four” or “all on 4” Dental Prosthodontics Procedure

What is it?

The “all on four” or “all on 4” is a dental prosthodontics procedure, which consists in the oral rehabilitation of the maxilla or mandible using only four dental implants and a fixed prosthesis or bridgework.

How is this possible?

In the early 90’s Nobel Biocare ( a renown dental company) developed the concept and started to do the procedure with outstanding long term results.

In this technique, 4 implants are used between the mental foramina and maxillary sinuses to support fixed restorations in the edentulous arch.  The two distal or most posterior implants are tilted so the cantilever is reduced, improving the biomechanics and making possible the long term life of a fixed bridgework.

Which are the advantages?

Essentially, the all-on-4 concept allows clinicians to deliver fixed dental prostheses, avoiding expensive and time-consuming bone augmentation procedures
