What are they?
Dental implants are small screw-shaped devices, made of titanium (grade 4-5), which after being inserted into the bone solidify to this, occurring a biological phenomenon called osseointegration. This phenomenon is a kind of “welding” of the implant to the bone and allows us to rehabilitate it with a prosthesis.
How long do they last?
The American Dental Association (ADA) has confirmed with long-term studies that in a period of ten (10) years, 98% of crowns on implants remain in the mouth.
How many appointments are needed?
Approximately between two and three appointments. Each professional handles a protocol, based on their training, clinical experience and scientific studies that support their procedure.
What the texts suggest is that once the implant is implanted, it should be expected between 3 to 6 months for its subsequent rehabilitation, depending on several factors such as the type of bone and the primary stability of the implant in surgery.
Who should place the implants?
Every Surgeon-Dentist with previous training is able to place an implant. Ideally, the maxillofacial surgery specialist should do the procedure. This is simply because it is this specialist who knows the best anatomical repairs and before any unforeseen, is trained to solve it.
